否定副詞...without...
(否定副詞: not, hardly, barely, rarely, seldom)

本句為雙重否定表示肯定的句型。
Ex: Hardly a season passes without his name appearing in a new movie.
// 否定副詞移到句首作為強調用。原句可寫成: A season hardly passes without his name appearing in a new movie.

Ex: A football game is rarely played without at least one player getting hurt.
      每次足球賽進行時,一定至少有一位球員受傷。

Ex: Not a person walked into the hospital without being asked about health insurance.
      每個走進醫院的人都會被問到健保的事。





despite/in spite of + N./V-ing, S. + V. ...
儘管; 雖然

*despite和in spite of都是介系詞,後面不可直接接子句,必須先接名詞再接that子句

Ex: In spite of all the money (that) I spent on repairs, my roof still leaks.
      即便我花了這麼多錢修理,屋頂還是會漏水。

Ex: Despite moving closer to where he works, Edward still shows up late quite often.
      愛德華雖然搬到離公司近一點的地方,他仍然常常遲到。





be worthy of  值得; 應該得到

*be worthy of 後面接名詞,或可加V-ing(表主動)或being p.p.(表被動)

Ex: The teacher thought the student's report was worthy of praise.
      老師認為這個學生的報告值得嘉獎。

Ex: These toys are worthy of saving because they should increase in value over the years.
      這些玩具值得保存,因為其價值會隨著時間增加。

Ex: The soldiers who fought in the battle were worthy of being rewarded with medals.
      這些在戰爭中奮戰的士兵們值得獲頒勳章。
